Coffee from Guatemala

Coffee from Guatemala

It is very likely that Jesuit missionaries introduced coffee in Guatemala in the middle of the 18th century. Just like in Costa Rica, the then president Barrias used coffee as a means to stimulate the economy.

Antigua Arabica
Between the three volcanoes Agua, Acatenango and Fuego lies the Antigua coffee area. It is a valley with the town of Antigua at its center, to which the area owes its name. The coffee is grown in the valley, which lies at an altitude of about 1600 meters. The location of this area is unique because the volcanic earth provides a stable humidity year round.

Huehuetenango Arabica
This is pronounced Wee Wee Te Nango (or way way). This is a non-volcanic area that also lies high above sea level and is quite dry (arid). Coffee is grown here at aan altitude of around 2000 meters.

Coban Arabica
Located in the northern part of Guatemala; a sub-tropical area. The name Coban comes from the Maya dialect and means something to the extent of ‘place of the clouds’ This has everything to do with the rainfall, the clouds and the high humidity in this area

SHB Arabica
The characteristic Strictly Hard Bean indicates that the coffee bean was grown at great heights and because of this it not only indicates a high quality, but also guarantees an excellent taste.
